Just like the hidden interior of the beautiful Japanese forest shrine in the thumbnail for this post…I think you will like what you see when you get a look inside our new project (I can reveal this publicly for the first time below). It has already begun to grow from our experiences in Japan, Italy and our own back-yard streams. It has already taken over our lives – so it is time to start sharing with you.
We are nervous and thrilled in equal amounts. We know that, by reporting authentically and accurately from Japan we cannot avoid drawing criticism. We know that we will be challenged, we know that what we’ve found already is amazing, we know it is valuable, we know that we’ll hear it is “too effective”, we know we’ll be told “it won’t work on my streams”, we know…we know…
- …We know that we have no choice but to try our best to share our good fortune.
- We know that we can’t take credit for that good fortune, it is the kindness of strangers and a fluke of our circumstances.
- We know that there are folks out there whose lives will be forever changed (as ours have been already).
- We know that there is so much more that we Don’t Know…
So this blog post is the very first public notification that we will soon be launching a regular YouTube “News, Tips, Interviews and Tuition” video broadcast for the world of tenkara. The content and stories will NOT be restricted to only our own brand or business; we are dedicated to showcasing the best of all activity, participation and ventures in global tenkara. A major function will be to progressively fill the significant knowledge and information gaps outside Japan on the techniques and culture of tenkara (including our own knowledge gaps). But just from what we’ve seen, learned and practised ourselves already, we know you are in for a staggering treat.
There is every chance that, as nosey foreigners, we could accidentally offend members of the Japanese tenkara community. We may be unaware of historic philosophical conflicts. We could put our big “gaijin” feet in it from time to time. So, for that, we will apologise in advance and promise, once more, to try our absolute hardest to report accurately and sensitively.
Maybe this is probably a good time to say that, in Japan, there seems to be a general calmness across the tenkara community> They are relaxed and confident in the identity of their chosen activities. I think that, just like teenagers the world over, it takes some time for that confidence and sense of identity to emerge. During the time spent searching for true identity, it is quite normal to lash out, push back and seek to over-step the boundaries.
But I promised to start to give out some details of our project…What would you be interested to know?
The name perhaps?
That’s an easy one….
“Tenkara in Focus“
Look out for the first episode and for more details coming soon,
Paul & John

Thank you so much Guy, I hope that there will be plenty of stuff that will be useful in Aus 🙂
Waiting with great anticipation!
Thanks Mark, we’re still wondering what the he’ll we’ve let ourselves in for…For instance today is the first day I can use the sentence ‘I’m just about to go shopping for TV studio backdrop materials’…Not something I’d ever imagined coming out with before!
Yeah, we are looking forward to what we’ve lined up…with suitable trepidation… 🙂
Congratulations on pulling everything together.
Knowing you guys,it is going to be a bit special.

Thank you so much. JP just sent me a preview of some graphics that he and Dean have been working on this week… They look sweet!
Great news, you two are so professional in all you do I just know this will be a success, keep up the good work.
Much appreciated Peter. It will be a ton of work but we are relishing it. The production/post production is all stuff that is often done by different dedicated groups and we’ll be doing all the writing, presenting, production, interviews etc between the 3 of us. So we’ll need some luck I think.
