This is the one where we really geek out on #3 Nylon Level line with the help of Kura-san and Go Ishii as well as an on-stream demo on an English trout river.

Excellent content. Links mentioned in video not obvious to this old duffer! Ordered lines, wait for windless day!
OK guys I’m trying to determine if I understand your points for the advantages / disadvantages of NLL vs FCLL in reference only to weight of the lines. Or stated another way – I’m trying to discover what I’ve missed in the comparison.
Somewhere I recall you saying that the weight of 3号 NLL was equivalent to 1.75号 FCLL. Therefore I’m trying to compare those two lines, Not comparing 3号 FCLL vs 3号 NLL.
Would the two lines be equivalent for: amount of drape otsuri, kebari drift speed, slowness of turn over, and softness of kebari splash down, holding position in cross stream casting eddy currents, ability to use water currents, etc. ? Conceding the NLL would be more visible.
In 2016 I noticed on Ajari-san’s blog (and a couple of other blogs too) he often uses YGK Yotsunami Ultra Sight 2号 Rat Orange color FCLL. [YGKよつあみ 与一 ULTRA Sight 2.0号 ラットオレンジ]. In lengths of 4.3 – 5m. It is listed on the yoz-ami dot jp website under the Rock category.
It is a FCLL that is fairly bright, Yoz-ami uses what they call their Z2neo method to make a brighter colored FCLL than other manufacturers FCLL It comes on 150m spools, is low cost, 2200 yen. I’ve used it since last summer, wind permitting. It’s also available in sizes 1.75号 to 1.25号. But I’ve not seen Ajari-san use it in 1.75号 . Though he has listed a couple of times Line System 筏かせ プレミアム 1.75号 line. [ translates as Raft Premium, but likely a nonsense translation] It’s a dark color line.
Kura-san stated if you can cast a 2.0号 FCLL you might have the skill to cast a 3.0号 NLL on a windless day. Maybe I would have a shot at being able to cast a 3.0号 NLL. Kura-san also said he started experimenting with NLL after a favorite 2.0号 FCLL was discontinued. [ so I’m also wondering why he might prefer 3号 NLL over 2号 YGK FCLL that Ajari-san finds acceptable]
Though the orange 2号 YGK Yotsunami Ultra Sight is fairly bright and visible. The YGK line in 1.75号 would probably be less visible. The 3.0号 NLL would probably have more intense color, and also being larger in diameter, easier to see.
But disregarding the visibility. Would or should I expect to see any big differences between these to types of lines? If yes, what advantages would / should I see? If the weights of these two lines are equivalent – I would expect the 1.75号 FCLL to be a little easier to cast due to its smaller diameter. Not much easier, but maybe a little easier. However, maybe I’ve missed some other advantage of NLL.
All of the above I guess can be summarized into this question:
With the exception of 3.0号 NLL being more visible than a high viz 1.75号 FCLL.. Is there any other practical difference between the two size / types of line?
J &P Thanks in advance for your further insight.
